AirSpeed Telecom has signed a three year contract worth €500,000 with Kilsaran to install and maintain a managed wide-area network across the company’s 25 sites around Ireland.
Kilsaran, which was founded in Co. Louth over 50 years ago, supplies ready-mixed concrete as well as a wide range of paving, tarmac and other building materials. Earlier this year, the company acquired many of the assets of Cemex, another building materials company, resulting in the addition of ten new sites to their existing network of 15 locations.
With many of the manufacturing and quarry facilities located in remote areas around Ireland, Kilsaran has always faced the challenge of working in areas that traditional telecommunications solutions can’t reach. After discovering that AirSpeed Telecom had the capability to provide innovative wireless connectivity at one of its sites in Tullamore, Kilsaran decided to hand its entire data communications contract to AirSpeed Telecom. Over 25 sites are now connected with dual redundant fibre and licensed wireless at the HQ.
The flexible data network provided by AirSpeed Telecom is being used to support a variety of business applications at Kilsaran, including a voice over IP service deployed by its own IT team, its document management system and its fleet tracking system for more than 300 Kilsaran vehicles. AirSpeed Telecom is also supplying vital 24-7 network support for these mission-critical line of business applications.
"We had already seen that AirSpeed could help us with some technical challenges at one of our sites, and we decided to work with them for our entire data infrastructure. They were also ready to help us with a major challenge: our acquisition of 10 new locations that we had to get onto our network in just eight weeks' time. With such a quick turnaround time, they sent in their best people and they never let us down. Reliability of our IT infrastructure is critical to our internal control process and we look for and we receive up to 100% uptime from AirSpeed. We told them we were looking for a communications partner when we signed this contract, and that's what they've been for us,” says Tom McCarthy, Finance Director for Kilsaran.
“This was a very intricate project for Kilsaran as it involved multiple sites throughout the country and the system had to ensure resiliency, redundancy and failover for high-criticality systems. This IT upgrade has now positioned the company to operate in a more effective manner in the future and take advantage of growth opportunities,” says Liam O’ Kelly, Managing Director of AirSpeed Telecom.
